May 2026 Missouri Department of Natural Resources Team Member of the Month
James Johnson, an administrative support assistant with the Missouri Department of Natural Resources’ Division of Administrative Support, is the department’s Team Member of the Month for May 2026. He was selected for his service to the department and for his contributions while serving as the front desk receptionist at the Lewis and Clark State Office Building.
As part of his usual duties, Johnson is usually the first team member visitors encounter when they visit the building. He is known for his respectful and positive can-do attitude, and he puts those qualities front and center in all his interactions with department team members and the public.
“James has only been with us a little more than a year, and he brings high energy and positivity with him each day,” said Lori Cagle, Johnson’s supervisor, who nominated him for the award. “He is always willing to do anything to make visitors to the building feel safe and welcome.”
In addition to greeting visitors, Johnson also answers and routes calls for the department’s main telephone line – a difficult task that requires patience and deep knowledge of the department’s various programs and sections to properly transfer calls or answer questions.
“James sets a great example of the level of respect that we all should strive to deliver,” said Amanda Sifford, an auditor who also nominated Johnson for the award. “I think he deserves this award for just being a really nice guy who shows respect to everyone and strives to do his best every day.” Johnson joined the Missouri Department of Natural Resources in April 2025 and resides in Jefferson City.
